ULF® has been a circulating, self-cleaning dry filter system for the paint industry since 2003.

Circulating dry filter system, self-cleaning

ULF is the abbreviation for recirculation filter technology and has been used successfully in the paint industry for many years. The range of applications for this economical spray booth, which operates very efficiently and in an environmentally friendly manner regardless of the application process, the nature of the workpiece and the paint material used, extends from small carpentry workshops to large industrial metal processors. An efficiency of up to 99% and lower filter and disposal costs are further advantages of this dry filter system.

Function

Conventional dry filter systems work on the same principle as a sponge. The filter becomes saturated with overspray and clogs the filter pores. Once the saturation limit is reached, the air velocity drops, which in turn reduces workpiece quality and worktop conditions. Even thick filter mats can only absorb a limited amount of paint overspray. ULF, on the other hand, consists of a housing with an integrated, continuously circulating special filter fleece. An air cylinder moves the filter belt horizontally past the workpiece. The paint overspray hits the surface of the specially developed filter fleece mat without forming a chemical bond with it. At the rear of the system, in the cleaning area, the dry paint overspray is extracted again. The air velocity and workplace conditions remain absolutely constant. The recovered powder is collected in a container and can be disposed of without any problems. Practical experience has shown that, depending on the paint material used, filter service lives of up to one year are possible.

Use

The flexibility of this technology means that the possibilities are virtually endless. The range of applications extends from simple hand spray booths and powerful underfloor variants to use in automated paint shops. The ULF concept has a modular design and can therefore be supplied in any length and two different heights.

Strenghts

ULF is not a rigid machine, but a flexible, technical concept that adapts to individual circumstances. This technology can be used efficiently even with paint consumption as low as 5 litres per day. This makes ULF ideal for small businesses that want to paint economically and in an environmentally friendly manner:

  • Efficiency: Less filter material, no paint sludge, no highly toxic coagulants, no contaminated water and clean exhaust air
  • Cost savings: Minimised disposal costs, filter costs and high work efficiency
  • Quality improvement: Improved surface quality thanks to consistent paint booth conditions
  • Versatility: Quick colour changes, modular design, can be connected to any existing paint system

edrizzi® and ULF

The combination of edrizzi® and ULF results in a highly effective painting concept with up to 99% separation for fast-drying surface materials. With this variant, post-filter service life of over one year is achieved. The system consists of a galvanised sheet steel housing with an edrizzi® Vario paint mist separator and an extraction box, an endless recirculation filter fleece, the drive system and an extraction unit. The edrizzi® Vario boxes are the first filter stage and separate most of the paint mist. The recirculating filter fleece behind them serves as a post-filter. It captures the remaining fine dust and transports it continuously to the cleaning area.

A self-cleaning dust collector developed at the edrizzi® technical centre serves as the cleaning station. Here, the dried paint material is extracted from the transport medium in a dry and clean manner and collected in a 200-litre tank. This ensures that the circulation filter remains capable of absorbing material at all times. As with conventional spray booths, the air is extracted by extraction fans. Like all separation systems from edrizzi®, edrizzi® and ULF can be installed either vertically or horizontally. Retrofitting to existing systems is simple and inexpensive. The edrizzi® and ULF system is one of the cleanest solutions for all applications in the paint industry – from simple manual spray booths and high-performance underfloor variants to the edrizzi® and ULF system as part of automated paint lines.
