Paint mist separation and overspray

What is overspray and how does it occur during painting?

Overspray refers to the proportion of the sprayed paint material that does not land on the surface to be coated. The excess paint mist becomes airborne in the spray booth and must be captured by suitable separation systems.

What options are available for separating paint mist from the exhaust air?

Both wet and dry separation systems are used for separating paint mist. Whilst wet separation uses water, dry separation does not involve water-based washing. The patented edrizzi® system utilises modular paint mist separators made from recycled paper and can be combined with several post-filtration stages.

What is the difference between dry and wet separation?

In wet separation, paint mist is removed from the exhaust air using water. The edrizzi® dry separation system, on the other hand, completely dispenses with the use of water and chemicals in the separation process. This eliminates the need to treat paint-contaminated wash water. At the same time, energy consumption and costly paint waste can be reduced.

How can energy consumption in industrial painting systems be reduced?

The switch from wet to dry separation opens up opportunities to reduce energy consumption in industrial paint booths. The edrizzi® system does not require water-based washing or the chemicals needed for this process. The technology therefore helps to conserve energy and valuable resources.

Which paint mist separators and filters are suitable for my paint booth?

The selection of suitable filters depends on the technical requirements of the paint shop. Key factors include the paint material used, the air flow pattern and the separation requirements. By combining carefully matched filter stages, paint mist separation can be adapted to different applications.

Filter supply and filter materials

What are the advantages of a multi-stage filter system?

In a multi-stage filter system, different filter stages perform specific separation tasks. The first separation stage removes some of the paint mist, whilst downstream filters capture further particles from the air stream. Through the carefully coordinated combination of filter stages, paint mist separation or filtration can be adapted to the requirements of the respective paint shop.

What filter products does brainflash offer?

The brainflash filter portfolio includes edrizzi® paint mist separators, supply air filters, exhaust air filters, as well as bag and cassette filters. These filter solutions are designed to capture paint mist and particles, and to purify the supply and exhaust air in industrial paint booths.

What is the difference between a pre-filter and a post-filter?

A pre-filter carries out the initial separation of particles or paint mist, thereby reducing the load on the downstream filter stages. Post-filters remove further particles from the air stream. Combining different filter stages enables separation tailored to the specific application.

How can I extend the service life of my paint filters?

The service life of paint booth filters depends on the filter selection, the level of paint overspray exposure and the operating conditions. A properly tailored pre-separation system can reduce the load on downstream filter stages. It is also crucial to adhere to the specified operating limits and to check the filter elements regularly.

How often do filter elements in a paint booth need to be replaced?

The frequency of filter replacement depends on the load on the filter elements and the operating conditions of the paint spraying system. The technical specifications of the respective filter system and the specified operating limits are decisive. It is therefore not possible to specify a universal replacement interval.

How should used paint filters be disposed of correctly?

The disposal of used paint filters depends on the filter material, the paint particles trapped and the applicable disposal regulations. The edrizzi® dry separation system was developed, amongst other things, to reduce costly hazardous waste and can often be disposed of by incineration. The specific disposal method for saturated separators must be assessed in accordance with the respective operating conditions.

ULF® recirculation filter system

What is the ULF® dry filter system?

ULF® is a self-cleaning, recirculating dry filter system for the paint industry. The patented technology utilises a continuously circulating specialised filter fleece that captures paint overspray, which is then removed in the cleaning section. The flexible, modular system adapts to a variety of painting applications and, according to the manufacturer, achieves a separation efficiency of up to 99 per cent.

What economic benefits does the ULF® system offer?

ULF® combines efficient paint mist separation with low filter and disposal costs. The self-cleaning specialised filter fleece is continuously cleared of dried paint overspray, thereby remaining absorbent. According to the manufacturer, filter service lives of up to one year are possible, depending on the paint material used. At the same time, the system ensures consistent conditions in the paint booth.

Can the ULF® system be integrated into existing paint shops?

The modular ULF® system can be adapted to different plant configurations. From simple manual spray booths through underfloor variants to automated paint lines, the recirculating filter technology offers flexible application options. Whether retrofitting is possible depends on the technical conditions of the existing installation.

RELAC® Paint Recovery

What is the RELAC® paint recovery system?

RELAC® is a patented system for recovering paint material in industrial wet painting processes. According to the manufacturer, the technology – which has been in use since 1992 – recovers over 90 per cent of overspray directly, enabling the paint material to be reused. This significantly reduces paint and solvent consumption as well as costly hazardous waste.

How does paint recovery with RELAC® work?

With RELAC®, a continuous special belt moves past the workpiece and continuously collects the excess paint mist. At the rear of the system, the collected paint material is gently removed from the belt using scraper blades. The recovered paint is filtered and can be mixed with fresh paint or fed directly back into the coating process.

What are the advantages of RELAC® paint recovery?

RELAC® enables the direct recovery and reuse of over 90 per cent of the overspray. This reduces the consumption of paint and solvents, as well as the costs associated with disposing of paint waste. Quick colour changes, automatic cleaning cycles and integration into various paint finishing systems further ensure cost-effective and efficient paint finishing processes.

brezzler® livestock protection solution

What is the brezzler® defence collar?

brezzler® is a patented development by brainflash designed to protect domestic and farm animals from attacks by predators. The electronic defence collar is based on the natural attacking behaviour of wolves, bears, lynx and golden jackals. The aim of the technology is to ward off attacks using a targeted electrical impulse, thereby providing an innovative solution for livestock protection.

How does the brezzler® defence collar work for livestock protection?

The brezzler® defence collar utilises the natural attacking behaviour of predators, which kill their prey with a constricting bite. The pressure generated in the process activates an electrical pulse, the voltage of which, according to the manufacturer, is comparable to that of an electric fence. This pulse is designed to cause the attacker to release its grip on the livestock. Integrated pressure sensors are used to detect movements and potential attacks.

Is the brezzler® defence collar already available?

The brezzler® defence collar has not yet reached production-ready stage. A field trial provided important insights for the further development of the first pre-production prototypes. Further development towards production readiness is currently on hold. No date for regular availability is specified on the product page.
